Handing Out Bibles Can Be Dangerous

Recently in the news we've seen the sad story where 4 Americans were killed on their yacht after being hijacked on the Indian Ocean. It is true, however, that they had been warned to not sail in the area around Oman and Somalia. But this was not enough to keep them from their quest, which was presumably to hand out their yacht-full of bibles. I don't think the pirates held any specific grudges against the people or the bible. I think they were more interested in the yacht's Corinthian leather and fridge full of Bud Light.

And the saddest part of this is that they did not have to die for this. First, there are already bibles in just about every hotel I've been in. They're everywhere! But if only these modern day missionaries had embraced new technologies. The bible is on the internet. Seriously. There are many sites with the bible on it. You just have to look. Just avoid the porn sites that are made to look like bible sites. Like www.naughtynuns.com. I could have sworn there would have been some salacious salvation there.

So... maybe people need to be visited so that they can be told to go and search for the bible on the internet? I get hundreds of emails a day telling me about where I can get "vIaGria" and "C-Alice", plus several business offers. And ironically, many of these actually come from Somalia. The same strategy can be used to send bible links to people via email.

But in reality, nobody reads anymore. We've got really short attention spans. You can lead a horse to the bible, but you can't make him read it. Especially since it's so long, incredibly boring, and full of ridiculous things. The best strategy would be to try to friend all of these savages on Facebook. Once you've done that, condense small segments of the bible into concise status messages, so that over time, they will have read most or all of the bible.

But you must remember to mix in some jokes, some youtube videos and some funny drunken photos of you at parties or else you will be pegged as a "Facebook Evangelist" and hidden from everyone's news feeds.
